Best Swims On Last Night, Piranha Top 20
The final session of the Junior Olympic meet in Long Beach proved to be a success. The team came into the day in 19th position and looked to remain in the top 20.
The first event was the 100 free where both Kat Wickham and Indy Ceranic scored big points. In the 13-14 category, Kat swam a personal best preliminary swim of 54.13 and finished in the finals in 14th position. Indy went into the 15-18 free seeded 4th and remained there with a best time of 52.32. Shelby Andrade swam the morning in 57.42.
The 13-14 girls 1650 had two Piranhas swimming the distance. Faith Travis finished 5th with a time of 17:52.89 and Alexa Wasserman had a best of 18:37.50 in 20th.
In the 200 breaststroke, Adam Shaw competed to a 3rd place finish in a personal best time of 2:07.61. Alexa and Matt Nevins also swam the event. Matt had a best of 2:17.50 (34th) and Alexa was 2:41.74 (30th).
The 13-14 200 butterfly had both Kat and Faith in the consolation heat. Kat swam another personal best with a time of 2:10.51 receiving 10th place, Faith was 11th in a time of 2:12.28.
The evening concluded with the 13-14 400 free relay where Kat, Shelby, Faith and Alexa swam to a 19th place. Overall, the meet was a great success for these swimmers, the team and the future success of the Piranha team. The 19th place finish was out of 32 scoring teams, and Piranha was 3rd from the Eastern section of SoCal swimming. With only 10 athletes, the Piranhas competed in many finals events and swam to personal best swims. Congratulations to all the JO swimmers representing Piranha!
