Thank You for a Great Meet!!
The Piranha Swim Team is coming off an incredible weekend both in the water as a team, and out of the water as the host.
Congratulations to all our Piranha swimmers who competed hard to garner an overall place team finish of 8th out of over 30 teams. The weekend had many highlight swims individually and on relays, age group winners, as well as many personal bests for our team members. I am so proud of their effort to step up and compete at this level and the great team effort on the relay events. It is great to see more and more Piranha caps in the heats at a high level event like the Winter Championships.
Our Piranha program also showed Southern California Swimming how a successful swim meet is run. The Winter Age Group Championship this past weekend was a huge success and it is attributed to the hard work of our staff and volunteers. On numerous occasions during the weekend, I was told that our meet has set a new standard in hosting championship meets. From the on deck preparation with the tents and heaters, to the concessions and meal preps; the event was a phenomenal display of how our program can put together a quality event. In fact, officials wanted us to host more of these championship events! (Probably because we fed them really well!)
The impact of a meet like this on our program is tremendous. When we host events and run these meets it creates a positive image and buzz about the team, coaches and swimmers. By hosting a meet, it enables our program to do the following:
1) It allows our swimmers to feel proud and compete in their home pool.
2) It provides the needed revenue for the Piranha team to maintain our facilities and to retain and compensate our coaching staff.
3) It gives us an important role in the community with the economic impact of the event.
4) And most importantly, it brings together our parents and team families as volunteers with a common goal of making our program special.
The amount of hours spent on deck by our volunteers does not go unrecognized. I am so proud of the dedication we have on our team. Some of you were there upwards of 12 hours on the deck and in the vendor area, and late into Sunday night during the teardown of the event. Once again—showing the great support and dedication Piranha parents have for the program.
I want to personally thank the main committee coordinators for the meet, and all of the hard work that was put into the meet. All aspects that supported the event from the vendors to the concessions, hospitality, and setup were very professional and it was apparent to all of the participants and visitors. There were many individuals to thank but overall it was a team effort. Everyone associated with the Piranha name should feel very proud of what happened this weekend!
It is exciting to think that we have the opportunity to host this championship meet again next year too!
