Sectional Meet Wrap-up

Huntington Beach - The sun came out and so did the Piranhas in a great finale of a long meet.  The final day of the 5-day Sectional swim meet came to an end yesterday with Piranha swimmers attaining 6 lifetime best times in their events. Coach Adam Schmitt was excited with "the resilience of our athletes in the conditions was a testimony to their toughness and desire to swim fast."

The meet began with the 100 yard backstroke where Faith, Indira and Adam all swam best times!  Faith shaved a bit of time off of her best with a time of 59.32 while Indy followed her with a time of 59.69.  For the guys, Adam swam a 53.86 in his 100 back and rounding out the event with 3 great swims.  Adam followed up his 100 back with his 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.16 and placing 14th into finals that night.  He came back at night to swim a time of 59.9 to get 16th place for the Piranhas.

The 100 butterfly had Shelby finally busting under that 1:00 barrier with a time of 58.81 in her swim.  Indira followed her up with a time of 1:01.99. The women’s 400 Medley Relay had Faith, Alexa, Shelby and Indira.  They finished by bettering their seeded time with a 4:04.94.  Faith led off with a 59.78 for the backstroke.

The final event and the longest event of the entire meet was the 1650 freestyle, the mile!  The Piranhas had two swimmers compete in the event, Faith and Kat.  Faith started it off with just missing a best time with a swim of 17:35.03, while Kat busted out a new best time with a 17:19.23.  That time had her finishing 19th overall in the event.

Overall, the Piranhas did a fabulous job competing and representing the team.  In fact, many comments were made about our small squad making a big impact.  Our swim caps were the talk of the meet as everyone liked our “fish”!  Great job Sectional team, all the hard work did pay off!
