Piranha News and Notes!

IMPORTANT NEWS – This Week In Piranhas!!!

Tour de Palm Springs Fundraising Success!

The Piranha Swim Team was recently presented with a cash donation from the Tour de Palm Springs cycling event earlier this year.  The organization presented a check to the Piranha Swim Team, on the deck of the Palm Springs pool with Coach Adam Schmitt for $900. This exceeded the results from last year by threefold!  The Tour de Palm Springs event raised monies for our team through the raffle ticket sales as well as any entry fees from cyclists who selected the Piranha team to sponsor during the ride. The Piranha Swim Team would like to thank the Tour de Palm Springs event along with Ben Travis and other cyclist parents helping get the word out for our program.  These types of fundraising events help fund our program along with our swim meets and dues, and keep the monthly membership dues low as well as retain staff and pool space. We encourage all of our members to participate in our local fundraising events.

Splash 4 Cash-Annual Team fundraiser/Team Picture day

Our annual fundraising event will be held on Wednesday, May 30th at the Palm Springs location.  This event is a fun team celebration.  We will kick off the event with our annual Team Photo taken at 4pm and follow-up with a team party after the swim.  We are encouraging 100% team participation and are making it easier than ever to get the word out to friends and family with our on-line donation area. Just go to our website, press the green “Please Help” button and follow the cues to have people sponsor your swimmer.  There is even a customizable page for your swimmer to write a personal note to your friends and family.   There are also flyers to download to mail out as well.  Our goal is to reach $10,000 and exceed last year’s effort.  Let’s fill up the whole "laneline" at the top of our web page!!!

Team Night Out success– Shadow Hills

The Team Night Out for the Piranhas was a great success with a great team practice followed by hotdogs and hamburgers, open swim and a movie.  All of the Piranhas in attendance enjoyed a fantastic warm desert evening and great fellowship with teammates.  We hope to continue with events that bring the team together East/West; young/older.  Stay tuned for the next scheduled event!

Circle City Meet:

I would like to congratulate the swimmers who competed in the Circle City meet in Corona. We had some great swims and fun at the meet. Thanks to all of the coaches for assisting the new and seasoned swimmers. We are all proud on how you represented the Piranhas!

Schedules this week:

This week for Piranhas is going to be busy! Not only do we have our high school swimmers competing in their league championships, there is a long course meet this weekend in Hemet. With this many events going on, our schedule will need to be flexible this week. Palm Springs will have two afternoons of the DVL meet, as well as Shadow Hills hosting the De Anza league champs so pool space will be a challenge. With this in mind, Piranhas schedule will tentatively go as follows:

  • Monday:
  • No Dryland - Normal schedule for swim
  • Tuesday:
  • Normal practices; (limited space; DVL meet in Palm Springs)
  • Wednesday:
  • No Dryland! -Normal swim schedule
  • Thursday:
  • Normal practices; (limited space; DVL meet in Palm Springs)
  • Friday:
  • No Shadow Hills practice! De Anza league meet. All practices at Palm Springs. No Dryland!
  • Saturday:
  • Hemet meet or Senior/Gold practice
  • Sunday:
  • Hemet meet.

Once the high school season ends and we complete our search for our age group coach, the schedule will be getting back to normal; until we hit the summer schedule in June.

Thanks for your flexibility this week.
