PIRANHA SWIM TEAM MEMBERS COMPETE IN THE INAUGURAL SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SWIMMING CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

HOSTED BY THE ROSE BOWL AQUATICS CLUB AT EAST LA COLLEGE

The Piranha Swim Team’s recent success at the USA Swimming Sectional Championships as well as the Southern California Swimming Junior Olympics earned the team a spot in the first ever Southern California Swimming Club Team Championships hosted by the Rose Bowl Aquatics Club this past weekend.  While swimming against the 64 best teams in Southern California, the Piranha Swim Team placed 9th in the Girls Team Division and 14th in the Overall Team scoring, just 20 points behind the next team.  Especially exciting when you consider 38 teams had more swimmers than us.

11 Year old Kelli Andrade racing in the 11-12 division, earned a Bronze Medal in the 50 breast stroke.  Faith Travis  started out on the first day by making three Championship finals (400 Individual Medley 6th, 200 backstroke 8th, and the 1000 freestyle 7th) then on day two did it again in the 100 backstroke by finishing 5th.  Indira Ceranic earned top 8 finishes in the 200 backstroke (6th),  100 freestyle (8th), and 200 freestyle (7th).  Kat Wickham earned a Bronze Medal in the 1000 freestyle and also made finals in the 200 fly (8th).  Alexa Wasserman  was our other individual medalist, finishing 8th in the 400 IM.  Alissah Koochaki and Shelby Andrade also qualified individually while Shelby had 2 top 16 finishes.

Faith, Alexa, Kat,  Indira, and Shelby managed to finish in the top 8 in all five 15 and up girls relays (200 medley, 400 medley, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, and 800 freestyle).  Shelby while leading off the 200 freestyle relay earned a USA Swimming Sectional qualifying time standard in the 50 free and also earned the same honors in a 100 breast stroke time trial (1.07.9) while dropping 3 seconds.

The Piranha members that swam at SCS Champs represented the entire Coachella Valley at the meet with great racing and a performance we can be proud of.  Racing the best only makes us better and there is no better area of swimming than Southern California Swimming.   With swimmers in the 11-12, 13-14 and 15 and up divisions earning spots in the Championships and by earning medals in each and every stroke and in 50's, 100's, 200's, 400's, and 1000's we continue to show our versatility as a team and prove that the Piranha Swim Team is an outstanding place to get to any level of swimming that you strive to be at.

GO PIRANHAS!!!!!!!!!
