PIRANHA WATER POLO GOES UNDEFEATED AT FIRST TOURNAMENT
In their first ever Water Polo Tournament, the Piranhas played to a 3-0-1 record in the 10th grade and under division of the Brea Tournament this past weekend. Extreamly impressive as most teams were made up of high school athletes while the Piranhas were largely younger. Piranha Water Polo opened the tournament with a 14-9 win over host Brea, then followed that with 8-2 victory over Bulldog Polo, 10-6 win over La Habra, and an 8-8 tie against the Ayala team.
Leading the Piranha scoring was the Vanbuskirk brothers. Dylan scored 15 total goals on the weekend while twin brother Derek scored 10. Shadow Hills High School freshman Justin Carbajal added in another 4 goals.
Jacob Spurgin and Zachary Furtado shared goalie duties with 15 saves and 7 assists for Jacob and 13 saves with 6 assists for Zachary. Defensively Zach Sokolik came through for the team with 4 steals as well as 3 assists in his first ever organized Water Polo games. Also adding to the Piranha defense were 11 year old Natalie Wright and 12 year old Savanna Hampton, both with multiple steals against boys older and bigger. 10 year old Caleb Vanbuskirk was also a presence, scoring multiple goals and adding to the teams defensive presence.
Great job by our Piranha players as well as Head Coach Aaron and Coach Alan. Great start to our Water Polo presence in the USA Water Polo community. Look for more tournaments as we grow and continue to offer Water Polo programming for all ages on a year around basis here in the Coachella Valley.
