SMRT Meet Wrap-Up

Well, it was another very productive weekend for some South Carolina swimmers this past weekend. In spite of blustery winds, steady rain, and threatening storms, SMRT hosted another successful long course meet to kick the season off (281 swimmers).  With the help of many SMRT volunteers beginning at 5 AM each day SMRT, along with Anderson Swim Club, Myrtle Beach Riptides, Mt. Pleasant Swim Club, Hilton Head Aquatics, Coastal Aquatics, Fayetteville Swim Club and an unattached team from Georgia raced a total of 1920 events!

Good music, delicious food, and great company rounded out the two day event. SMRT swimmers scored 198 personal best times, with females earning 98 and males earning 38 LCM state cuts for the season. The SMRT boys earned 14 A Times, 11 AA Times & 1 AAA Time, while the females achieved 50 A Times, 35 AA Times & 6 AAA Times. As for SMRT Records, Robbie Gourdie broke the 8 & Under Boys 50 fly, 100 breast, & 200 free, Mary Alice DuPree broke the 9-10 Girls 800 free, and Elijah Bohon broke the Senior Boys 200 back.  This is a GREAT start to the long course season. Don't forget the long course summer schedule will go into effect during the early part of June, and can be found on our website.

SMRT will be hosting another meet on July 10th & 11th, which will probably be your last chance to get those volunteer hours in before the season is over.  These hosted meets also allow families the luxury of not having to travel and spend extra on lodging and dining.  Please remember that each volunteer hour not completed will be invoiced at $5 per hour.  Volunteer time is critical to the success of this team and each event we host.
