2020 Al Soltis Swim Sunday recap

It was another successful day for the Sun Coast swimmers on the last day of competition at the 2020 Al Soltis Memorial Senior Swim Meet where all the swimmers, “FINISHED IT”! (can you hear Mr. Gatton cheering!)

The morning session again saw some great personal best (PB) swims in addition to other personal and competition successes. Arianna Bugner (15) saw big drops in times with PBs in the 100 free and 50 fly. Grace Burkholder (14) qualified for B Finals in both the 100 free and 200 back, also swimming a PB in the 200 back. Dean Carey (13) dropped significant time in the 100 free and qualified for B Finals in the 50 breast. Noah Christian (18) qualified for A Finals in the 50 breast and made a personal best time. Alex Cobb (12) dropped big time in both of her 100 free and 50 breast swims. Thomas Hauter (16) swam some new events and was truly impressive in each of them. Garrett Hickman (14) qualified for B Finals in the 50 breast. Drew Jenkins (14) continued his dominance in the water by finishing 3rd in the 50 breast, both dropping time and qualifying for A Finals. He went on to qualify for B Finals in two more events. Genevieve Kennedy (16) dropped time for a PB in the 200 back. Hannah Laycock (18) had PBs in the 200 IM, 100 free and 200 back, where she also qualified for B Finals. Jerry Randall (12) dropped time in his 50 breast and 100 free swims. Justin Rieck (13) swam a super 200 back which qualified him for B Finals. Lucas Spann (6) once again stole the hearts of the entire event’s swimmers and spectators swimming in two Senior events of the 50 breast and 50 fly, and then swimming a 100 free. The crowd went wild when Lucas touch the pad at the end of the 100 free! Alexis Swiggett (11) really turned over the waves in the 50 breast dropping big time for her PB. Marshall Wilson (16) went a PB in the 50 fly and qualified for B Finals in the 50 fly and 100 free.

Sunday night’s A and B Finals on the 50-Meter-Long Course was another exciting session. Grace’s finishes moved her up two places in the 100M free and moved up another two spots in the 200M back to take 8th place. Drew in the 50M breast finished an awesome 2nd and moved up three spots in his 200 IM finish. Garrett finished up two places in his 50M breast finish. Hannah moved up two places in her 200M back appearance. Justin swim in the B Finals of the 200M back earned him a 13th place finish. Well done!

While the 2020 Al Soltis meet has come to an end, there is still time to sign up for the next USA Swimming meet that the Sun Coast Swim Team will be participating in, the TBAC Winter Invitational, Feb 8 - Feb 9, 2020 at the famous North Shore Aquatics Center in St. Petersburg.
