2020 Spring Florida Swimming Area 3 Championships Day 1 and Day 2 Prelims
2020 Spring Florida Swimming Area 3 Championships Day 1 and Day 2 Prelims
Sun Coast Swim Team is completing at the 2020 Spring Florida Swimming Area 3 Championships at the North Shore Aquatics Center in St. Petersburg. While the weather is a bit chilly, the swims and times are not. With temperatures in the mid 50s and with many of the senior level swimmers still training for Senior Champs (in two weeks) there were some impressive times. Many of our Senior Champs swimmers regardless of age are required to swim Senior events if they have a Florida Swimming Senior cut in their age group and event. This means they may already be faster than the fastest swimmer competing at the meet.
On Friday evening Lia Richards (11) cut 24 secs in the 500Y Free in 4th place, then next swam the 200Y IM finishing 2nd, and then one heat later dropped 30 seconds in the 400Y IM finishing 3rd place. Hannah Laycock (18) finished 3rd in the 50Y Fly. Grace Burkholder (14) took 4th in the 500Y free and 50Y free. Drew Jenkins (14) had to swim Seniors Group in the 50Y Fly and dropped -1.08 seconds, then turned around and swam the 50Y back dropping by -0.55 seconds and took 6th place also in a Senior event. Noah Christian (18) took 2nd place in the 50Y Breast.
Saturday Prelims saw nearly every senior age swimmer finishing the top 10 places, allowing them to return this afternoon for finals. Congrats to: Arianna Bugner (15), Grace Burkholder (14), Noah Christian (18), Garrett Hickman (14), Drew Jenkins (14), Genevieve Kennedy (16), Hannah Laycock (18), Lia Richards (11), Landon Vincent (15) and Marshall Wilson (16)
We did have a few absences this meet due to sickness and had they been here I am sure they too would have made finals.
Stay tuned for more updates from 2020 Spring Florida Swimming Area 3 Championships!
