Sun Coast Swim Team awards Captain Holme Life Coach Emeritus and Life Board Member distinctions

Sun Coast Swim Team’s founder, Vice-President, and Team Administrator Thomas T. Holme, more commonly known to the team as “Captain”, has announced that he will be stepping back from Sun Coast Swim Team’s daily operation. Captain Holme, a highly decorated U.S. Naval officer and former Crystal River High School JROTC Senior Naval instructor and teacher, began leading competitive swimming in Citrus County in 1992. (Click here to read Capt. Holme Bio.) In 1995 Captain Holme founded the Sun Coast Swim Team which has grown into the premier competitive swim team in Citrus County. Under Captain Holme’s leadership, SCST has been home to more than 750 swimmers. Over 27 SCST Swimmers have gone on to swim in college at the NCAA Division I, II, and III and NAIA schools including FSU, FAU, the US Naval Academy, Norwich University, Indian River State College, Florida Tech, Florida Southern, Virginia Military Institute, and Daytona State.  In addition, Captain founded the CRHS Swim and Dive Team and has continued to play a vital role in its operation.  The CRHS Swim and Dive Team holds 26 FHSAA District Championship titles and over 18 Conference Championship titles.  The athletic successes realized by Sun Coast Swim Team swimmers would not be possible if not for Captain Holme.

Therefore, in special recognition of the lifelong work for the Sun Coast Swim Team and competitive swimming in Citrus County, the Sun Coast Swim Team Board of Directors on December 21, 2020 amended its by-laws to make Thomas T. Holme a “Life Coach Emeritus” for the Sun Coast Swim Team.  Further, the Board approved Holme to be a “Life Board Member” for the Sun Coast Swim Team.  Lastly, the Board further amended the by-laws to formally state that the title of “Captain” may be only used by the Sun Coast Swim Team to refer to “Captain Thomas T. Holme, U.S. Navy (ret.)”. The Board in its actions stated, “no single person has contributed more to the Sun Coast Swim Team and competitive swimming in Citrus County than Captain Holme.

Captain Holme may not be on the deck weekly, but he will still play a role in the success of the Sun Coast Swim Team.  We salute our Captain Holme for his exemplary service to the youth of Citrus County and beyond and we thank his wife Joy for her sacrifice in sharing Captain with our team and families.

Bravo Zulu Captain Holme!
