Sun Coast Swim Team's Morgan Gibson Shines at Southern Zone South Sectional Championships

Sun Coast Swim Team's Morgan Gibson made waves this past weekend at the USA Swimming National Southern Zone South Sectional Championships, held at the prestigious Rosen Aquatic & Fitness Center in Orlando, Florida. Competing alongside some of the nation's most elite swimmers, including Olympians like Kieran Smith, Natalie Hinds, Summer McIntosh, and the legendary Katie Ledecky, Morgan showcased her talent and determination in the pool.

This marked Morgan's second appearance at the Speedo Sectionals, and she did not disappoint. Despite juggling her time between swimming and weightlifting seasons, Morgan managed to qualify for an impressive four events, demonstrating her versatility and dedication to her craft. What's even more remarkable is that she set new personal records in three out of the four events she competed in, a testament to her hard work and commitment to improvement.

For Morgan, the opportunity to compete at a national level once again was nothing short of thrilling, especially with the presence of swimming icon Katie Ledecky. It's worth noting that Ledecky, who was ranked among the top 100 Greatest Swimmers & Divers of the past century by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association in 2021, shares a connection with Sun Coast Swim Team through their head coach Michelle Langsford Dickemann, who is listed above Ledecky in the list of 100.

Acknowledging the support and guidance provided by Head Coach Dickemann, Morgan expressed gratitude for her coaching during the Sectionals. Alongside Coaches Penn and Dyer, Dickemann plays a pivotal role in nurturing not only exceptional athletes but also remarkable young individuals, fostering a culture of excellence and sportsmanship within the team.
