Sun Coast Swim Team Shines at the 2024 Citrus County Education Foundation (CCEF) Citrus Kids Triathlon

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the 11th annual Citrus Kids Triathlon, sponsored by the Citrus County Education Foundation (CCEF), brought together young athletes from across the region to showcase their talents and determination. Among these rising stars were members of the Sun Coast Swim Team (SCST), who not only competed fiercely but also demonstrated sportsmanship and dedication throughout the event.

Jocelyn Daugherty, a 12-year-old standout from SCST, claimed the top spot, taking 1st Place in the Girls Senior Division and showcasing her exceptional skills and training. Right behind her was Cypress Collins, an 11-year-old prodigy, securing a well-deserved 2nd place in the Boys Senior Division. The SCST community proudly congratulates both Jocelyn and Cypress for their outstanding performances and achievements.

The event, held at Bicentennial Park and managed by DRC Sports, featured multiple divisions catering to different age groups. The Junior Division and Senior Division witnessed fierce competition, while the Tri4Fun division welcomed participants of all ages, adding a dynamic and inclusive element to the triathlon. Children aged 5-15 showcased their athleticism, determination, and sportsmanship, making the event a true celebration of youth sports.

Behind the scenes, the success of the event was made possible by the diligent and dedicated Bicentennial Park Pool guard team. Six lifeguards from SCST and five from the Crystal River High School swim team played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of the triathlon. Their commitment and professionalism were instrumental in creating a secure and enjoyable environment for all participants.

The Citrus County Education Foundation's sponsorship of the event highlights their ongoing support for educational initiatives that benefit students, educators, and schools across the county. The proceeds from the triathlon directly contribute to enhancing classrooms, supporting educational programs, and empowering young minds to reach their full potential.

Special thanks go to CCEF Citrus Kids Triathlon coordinator Amy Barbieri for all her time and work in making today and all the Citrus Kids Triathlon events happen. We also want to thank the Citrus County Parks and Recreation Department for hosting this exciting event, showcasing Bicentennial Park as a vibrant hub for sports and community engagement. The City of Crystal River, through its partnership and support, continues to promote healthy lifestyles and youth development through sports.

The SCST, alongside all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and organizers, celebrates the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and achievement fostered by events like the Citrus Kids Triathlon. It's not just about winning medals but about inspiring future generations to embrace sports, fitness, and the joy of competition.
