Sun Coast Swim Team Swimmers Qualify for USA Swimming Sectional at Tampa Bay Swim Classic

Sun Coast Swim Team swimmers Daniel “Danny” Pontrelli II (18) and Cruz Helmstetter (17) have kicked off their summer season with an impressive start, achieving qualifying times for the USA Swimming Sectional this weekend at the 2024 Tampa Bay Swim Classic, held at the North Shore Aquatic Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Danny and Cruz, as the Tampa Bay Swim Classic is just one of the first meets of the summer season. Their qualification is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the rigorous training provided by the Sun Coast Swim Team.

Danny Pontrelli II, a recent graduate from Nature Coast Tech High School in Brooksville, is set to join the National Championship St. Thomas University (STU) Bobcats Men’s swim team in Miami Gardens, Florida, this fall. Danny’s journey with the Sun Coast Swim Team has been remarkable, showcasing his exceptional talent and perseverance. His qualification for the USA Swimming Sectional adds another accolade to his already impressive swimming career. The Sun Coast community is eager to see Danny excel at the collegiate level, where his skills and dedication will undoubtedly contribute to the STU Bobcats’ continued success.

Cruz Helmstetter, on the other hand, is preparing for his senior year with the Crystal River High School Pirate Swim Team. As a member of the Pirate Swim Team, Cruz has consistently demonstrated his prowess in the pool. His qualification for the sectional meet is a clear indicator of his growing strength and potential. Cruz plans to continue his swimming career at the collegiate level, and his performance this summer will be crucial in showcasing his capabilities to potential college recruiters.
