Sun Coast Swim Team’s Lia Richards Commits to Shippensburg University Raiders

Sun Coast Swim Team and Crystal River High School senior standout Lia Richards has verbally committed to continue her academic and athletic journey at Shippensburg University, joining the NCAA Division II Raiders Swim Team. Lia will pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice while competing at the collegiate level. She has also been invited to join the Shippensburg University Honors College and is considering a minor in athletic coaching, reflecting her commitment to excellence both in and out of the pool.

Lia’s commitment marks a milestone for the Sun Coast Swim Team, making her the 29th swimmer from the program to advance to collegiate competition. Her journey began at just seven years old, and over the years, she has built a reputation as one of the region’s top competitive swimmers.

Her accomplishments speak volumes. Lia has qualified for multiple Florida Senior Championships, competed in two FHSAA Class 2A State Championships, finished as the Gulf Coast 8 Conference runner-up, claimed multiple county titles, and set several Crystal River High School records—showcasing her consistency, determination, and excellence in the pool.

Reflecting on her achievement, Lia expressed heartfelt gratitude to the mentors who have guided her along the way. “I am beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Shippensburg University! She also thanked her future collegiate coach, sharing her excitement about joining the Raiders. “Thank you, Coach Verge, for this wonderful opportunity and for believing in me! I am proud to be part of the Ship family! Give in and give God—trust the plan!”

Sun Coast Swim Team Head Coach Michelle Dickemann praised Lia’s achievement and potential for continued growth at the collegiate level. “We are so proud of Lia’s decision to continue her swimming career at the collegiate level. She has not reached her full potential, and we cannot wait to see where the Raiders program takes her in competitive collegiate swimming.”

Shippensburg University, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, competes at the NCAA Division II level. The Raiders have a strong tradition in swimming, and Lia’s addition promises to bolster the team’s continued success. With her versatility, work ethic, and competitive experience, she is poised to make an immediate impact both in and out of the pool.

For the Sun Coast Swim Team, Lia’s commitment underscores the program’s legacy of developing athletes who excel at the collegiate level. Her achievement reflects the dedication, training, and perseverance that the club has cultivated for decades.
