ACAC kicks off short course season with strong swimming
(KINGSPORT, Tenn.) Nearly 50 swimmers from Atomic City Aquatic Club made a splash at the 2023 Red Piranha Swimming Fall Kickoff meet in Kingsport.
“Our athletes had an incredible showing at this meet,” said ACAC Head Coach Sarah Corcoran.”Most of our swimmers came out with at least one personal best time and the team recorded nearly 150 top 3 finishes.”
The Kingsport meet marked the first short course meet of the season, which runs from September through March. The first meet of the season is a time for experienced athletes to re-acclimate to competing in the short course pool and for newer swimmers to learn the ins-and-outs of a USA Swimming meet.
“We saw great racing across the board,” Coach Corcoran said. “Every race was exciting. From our youngest and newest swimmers to our senior group, the kids showed what a great season we are about to have.”
ACAC’s athletes have been establishing goals for the short course season, with many athletes setting their sights on championship meets, including Southeasterns, Sectionals and even Winter Junior Nationals.
The team’s next meet is at home in Oak Ridge from Friday, Oct. 20 - Sunday, Oct. 22. The community is invited to come to the Oak Ridge Civic Center and watch athletes from around East Tennessee compete in an IMR/IMX style meet, where the intent is to swim a specific program of events to track progress against teammates, the region and the nation.
