(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Atomic City Aquatic Club swimmers excelled at the Meet of Champs in Brentwood, Tenn. the weekend of December 1. This mid-season championship meet is a prelim-finals format, which allows swimmers who qualify in preliminary competition to race again in finals with a goal of further improvement.

“ACAC’s swimmers showed resilience and growth at this meet,” said Head Coach Sarah Corcoran. “They were prepared for highly competitive races and rose to meet these challenges while accomplishing their goals.”

While every ACAC athlete posted best times at this meet, a number of swimmers achieved qualifying times for upcoming championship meets.

Leo Karnitz and Christopher Rector qualified for USA Swimming Futures Championships, an elite, national-level meet. Karnitz swam qualifying times in three events: the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke. Rector qualified in the 200 breaststroke.

Additionally, 10 swimmers qualified for Southeasterns, the regional championship meet. Those swimmers included: Amelia Carrell, Avery Fischer, Charlie Houston, Evan King, Elliot Mandl, Jesse Schaefer, Dorian Volcansek, Mateo Volcansek, Sophie Volcansek and Logan Williams.

“The confidence in these athletes was contagious and it was a joy to watch as they achieved success,” said Coach Corcoran.

ACAC swimmers will have several more opportunities to qualify for Southeasterns, Futures and other high-level meets, including the Tennessee Invite in early January and the Region 2 Championships in Chattanooga in late January.
