Former NAC Swimmers Claim Men?s NCAA Championship Title!

The NCAA 2010 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship was quite the meet for a handful of former NAC standouts. This year it wasn’t the Auburn Tigers or even the Arizona Wildcats who took home the trophy, it was the Texas Longhorns. Hayes Johnson, Alan Maher, and Jackson Wilcox are three Longhorns who hail from right here in Nashville.

The highest placing of a former NAC swimmer was 3rd by Jackson Wilcox on day 3 of the meet in 1650 freestyle with a time of 14:49.47 beating his previous best of 14:55.96. Wilcox also competed in the 500 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle. Hayes Johnson competed in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 Backstroke. Both are sophomores so look for even more exciting results from these Longhorns over the next 2 years. Finishing up his collegiate swimming career was Longhorn Team Captain Alan Maher. Though he just missed qualifying for the meet, Alan played an integral part in leading his team to the Championship. What a way to end a great career!

The Longhorns weren’t the only team battling their way to the top of the results list. Stanford placed 4th overall with much help from former NAC’er Curtis Lovelace. Curtis placed 7th in the 100 Breaststroke in 52.61 and 6th in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 1:54.37. Lovelace is also a Sophomore so make sure to keep him on your radar as well.

Other NAC swimmers making appearances at the Championship meet were Arizona Wildcat Jordan Slaughter and Auburn Tiger Andrew Mitchell. Jordan is a sophomore at Arizona and Andrew is a junior at Auburn. Arizona finished 3rd overall while Auburn came in 6th at the meet.
