NAC Swimmers Heat Up at Arizona Invitational
Nashville Aquatic Club swimmers traveled to Tempe, Arizona over the weekend to compete at the Sun Devil Aquatics Arizona Invitational. Hosted at Arizona State University, the meet featured multiple USA Swimming national team members including Nick Brunelli, Nick Thoman, Darian Townsend, Clark Burckle, Cullen Jones, Josh Schneider, Margo Geer, and many others. Despite the stiff competition, NAC swimmers held their own and provided some of the most outstanding performances of the meet, and certainly the most impressive team showing overall.
Morgan Flynn claimed the distance double, capturing first place in both the Women's 800 and 1500m freestyles. Dakota Hodgson took home the 200m fly title, clocking a time of 2:01.04 - well under the Olympic Trials standard by several seconds. Hodgson also rode an incredible back 50 of his 200m freestyle to run down National Teamer Clark Burckle for the 200m freestyle title, swimming a 1:54.60. Maclin Davis also clocked an impressive 100m Butterfly, taking home the title in a 54.89. Other event winners for NAC included Annie Kyriakidis (11-12 50 Fly, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Fly, 200 Freestyle, 200 IM, 400IM, 50 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke), Tatum Wade (13-14 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke), Carrie Johnson (13-14 100 Backstroke), and Taylor Charles (Senior 200 IM).
All of the participating NAC athletes swam incredibly well, with every athlete getting at least one second swim. Overall, with only 22 athletes, NAC managed to finish in 5th place overall. Congratulations to all of our attendees, and special thanks to our chaperones, Claire McCall and Gweyn Colaberdino who did a fantastic job of keeping everyone healthy, fed, hydrated, and happy!
