NAC Athletes Shine at National and International Events
In the month of August, Nashville Aquatic Club athletes traveled to several locations to compete at the National and International Level.
Maclin Davis qualified for, and competed in, the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru. As a member of the USA-Swimming National Youth Team, this was Maclin's first experience representing the United States. Maclin brought home 3 gold medals, taking home titles in the 50m Fly, 100m Fly, and the 4 x 100 Medley Relay. On the relay, Maclin split a 52.44, and won the individual 100m Fly in 53.24.
Selection for the World Junior Swimming Championships was based on the athlete's finish at USA Swimming Nationals, held at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA August 2 - 6. At Nationals, Maclin was the 18 and Under national champion in the 100m Fly, earning his ticket to Peru. NAC Alum Curtis Lovelace participated in the World University Games which took place in Shenzhen, China. Lovelace represented Team USA by swimming the 50 and 100m breaststroke events.
At USA Swimming Nationals, Taylor Camp also had a fantastic swim in the 100m Fly, finishing in 15th place in a time of 53.84. Hannah Runyon-Hass swam a lifetime best in the 200m IM, just missing the Olympic Trials cut and finishing in 2:19.79, good for 64th place. Dakota Hodgson qualified for the A final and finished in 10th place in the men's 200m butterfly - clocking an outstanding 1:58.81 in the morning. Taylor Camp qualified for the B final in the 200m butterfly, and finished in 18th place after swimming a 2:00.78 in the morning!
NAC Alumni have also had a successful meet, as Jackson Wilcox finished 6th in the men's 400m freestyle in a lifetime best of 3:51.02. Wilcox also finished 11th in the men's 200m freestyle clocking a time of 1:49.84. Hayes Johnson finished in 27th place in the 100m backstroke, finishing in 56.4. Curtis Lovelace picked up a 9th place finish in the 100m breaststroke, finishing in 1:01.76. Curtis also finished 6th in the 200 breaststroke and 24th in the 200 IM. Other NAC alumni participants included Eleanor Phillips, who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 200m Fly, Parker Camp, and Madison Wenzler.
NAC took 9 athletes to USA Swimming Junior Nationals, held August 8 - 12 at Stanford University in Palo Alto. Tatum Wade earned a second swim in her 200m breaststroke, while Morgan Flynn (9th) and Elizabeth Stinson (7th) medaled in the women's 1500m freestyle. Other participants from NAC included Taylor Charles, Michelle Chintanaphol, Adam Cornett, Alex Goss, Anna Grainger, and Annie Kyriakidis.
