NAC Athletes on National Stage at USA Swimming Olympic Trials
18 athletes with Nashville Aquatic Club ties headed to Omaha, Nebraska to participate in the USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials. NAC, which had one of the largest contingents of athletes in the country, including college programs, had an extremely full eight days of competition.
Nashville Aquatic Club performances were highlighted by Dakota Hodgson, who stormed through the morning heats to qualify in sixth place in the men's 200 meter butterfly. In the semifinals, televised on NBC, Dakota finished in eight place, earning a spot in the final. In the final, chock full of stars including Michael Phelps, Davis Tarwater, and past NCAA Champion Mark Dylla, Dakota touched the wall in 6th place, with a lifetime best time of 1:58.07.
NAC's Maclin Davis also reached the semifinals in the men's 100 meter butterfly, finishing in a lifetime best of 53.14 in the morning heats. In the semifinals, Maclin finished in 13th place, earning him a spot on the Junior Pan Pacific Championship team which will compete in Honolulu, Hawaii at the end of August. Maclin was the fastest 18 and under athlete in the country in the event.
"Our goal as a team was to have two athletes qualify for the semifinals, so as a team we were successful, " Head Coach John Morse said. "Having Dakota reach the final was an exceptional accomplishment."
