NAC Penny Pounding Campaign, Year 2!

NAC Penny Pounding: Year 2 of the Christmas Campaign

This year, NAC will be doing another holiday giving challenge that we call the Penny Pounding Campaign!  For this campaign, NAC works with Project R12, a Nashville based nonprofit that does humanitarian work in Central Uganda. Project R12’s mission is to invest in people, not just projects, to help bring positive and sustainable change to poor communities. Our NAC athletes have the opportunity to help make this a reality through our very own Penny Pounding Campaign! Swimmers will bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars of their OWN money to put into their group bucket at practice.  This money will be pooled together at the end of the month to purchase sustainable gifts from local producers in Uganda for local villagers! NAC’s goal is not only to make incredible athletes, but great people who want to make the world a better place!

Some of the sustainable gifts are:

• For $20:55 lbs. of beans and 55 lbs. of corn – this is enough seeds to plant half an acre! Seeds will allow families to produce crops to feed themselves and others! This is a major step for the average Ugandan family to become self-sustaining.
• For $50:1/10 of a healthy adult cow [cows are $500] – cows produce milk and manure which can be sold at a local market. Milk for the people and manure for fertilizer of crops!
• For $60:1 full grown goat – Goats breed quickly which provides a family with enough offspring to produce milk and meat.  The products can also be sold at the local market.
• For $70: 1 mattress, soft blanket, pillow, and sheets – Most children and adults sleep on concrete floors, piles of straw, or the ground.  They are prone to many rashes and diseases from sleeping on the dirty floors and bug infested straw. 
• For $90:1 Sewing Machine – This will provide a sewing machine for the Genesis Project, where young single mothers are able to get job training and for the first time provide for themselves and their young child.

To make things exciting, we are having a competition between the practice groups to see who can raise the most. The campaign is running from now through December 31. There are 3 large yellow Ugandan water jugs that will soon be filled with quarters and dollars. 

Jug #1 is for Senior 2 & 3

Jug #2 is for Blue Group & Senior 1

Jug #3 is for Red Group, White Group, and Green Group

The coaches will be talking to the athletes about this campaign.  Please be sure to share this information with your child as well.  We realize that our parents do a lot to support our club and give in many different ways.  The Penny Pounding Campaign is for the athletes and we hope to inspire these kids to give on their own.
