Getting to Know Lance Logan

How did you end up in Nashville?

I am originally from Moline, IL - the birthplace of John Deere - and I went to school at Drake University in Des Moines, IA.  Immediately after graduation, I moved to Austin, Texas because I hate the cold!

I ended up in Nashville because I was chasing a girl (ha-ha). While that relationship didn't work out, I loved it here, so I bought a house and stayed.

What’s your swimming history? How’d you get involved with NAC?

I started swimming in my late twenties.  I was living in Austin and going to ‘boot camp’ workout classes at the YMCA. Our instructor was this 60-year-old man who always wore Ironman Triathlon gear and kicked our butts; he was in amazing shape—doing the workouts alongside us. He inspired me to get into triathlons and that got me in the pool.  Austin has an amazing triathlon community where you can join teams that have swim classes, spin classes, and run classes all in one membership.  When I moved to Nashville, I wanted to get back in the pool and so I googled ‘Master swim classes near me’ and ended up finding the Sportsplex and NAC.

Other athletic endeavors?

I played basketball in high school and was on my university’s "gray squad" - a team of guys who helped prepare our women's basketball team for their opponents. It's a real thing! We got our own gear, had to prep, do homework, and were expected to be at every practice just like the "real" players. It was fun and I had to be a registered NCAA athlete, so it used up my 4 years of eligibility!  After school, I got into Triathlons: I am a three-time Ironman Finisher.

What gets you to the pool?

It is one of those things where sometimes it is hard to get out of bed, but you never regret it after practice. Although sometimes I do think, ‘this practice was a terrible idea’ mid-set, afterwards I always walk out feeling good.

What are your goals?

Ashley keeps pushing me, so I think this year I’ll enter my first swim meet.

Tell us a little about your family life?

I am single, and I have two dogs - both mutts - Riley and Dawgter Frank Fauci. If you can't tell, I got Frank during covid lockdown.  My parents are snowbirds living half the year in Illinois and half in Florida, so I make sure to visit them in Florida once a year!  I have an older sister who lives in Chicago.

Tell us about your job.

I recently transitioned jobs and am now working as a Publix Pharmacist.
