A and B Championships

Below is all the information regarding our end of the season championship meets.

Please note, the DEADLINE FOR ALL CHAMPS ENTRIES IS FRIDAY, JULY 14 at 8:00 PM. 

Divisional B-Championship Meet
(non-qualifying meet)

SATURDAY, JULY 22nd 8:00 AM @ Rose Tree Woods Swim Club

• This is a NON-QUALIFYING MEET. 
• This meet is open to ALL swimmers on the team.
• This meet includes all normal meet events. 
• This meet is optional but recommended if your swimmer did not meet the A champs time standard.
• Coaches will create the relay's for B Champs depending on who is attending the meet.
• If your swimmer qualified for A championships, they can swim in B championships but not in that event.
  • Please note, your child still has until the final varsity meet to qualify for A champs. More on this below.
• Swimmer's CANNOT qualify for A championships at this meet. 
• YOU can choose the events your child wants to swim.

A Championship Meet (qualifying ONLY)

A Champs is a three-part series of meets that occur during the week of July 24th and concludes with the main event on Saturday, July 29th at ASC.

Distance Freestyle Meet- Monday, July 24th @ 4:00 PM @ Ply Mar Swim Club

• The Distance Free A Champs meet consists of the following events: 100 meter free (8 & under), 200 meter free (9-12's), 400 meter free (13-18's).
• Distance free events are not swam during our regular swim meets. We will hold time trials for these events at practice next week.

• The IM champs meet consists of 100 yard IM (6-10's), 200 yard IM (11-18's). The individual medley is one or two laps of every stroke in one race. 
• Individual Medley events are not swam during our regular swim meets. We will hold time trials for these events at practice next week.

• The A Champs main event has all regular meet events including relays.
• This is the main point scoring meet for our league. Our divisions for next season are decided by how we place at A Championships. 
• Relay's DO NOT have to qualify for this meet. Every team gets to bring one relay per age-group. 

INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: In order to attend one or all meets, your child must have met a certain time standard. 

RELAY'S: Relay's automatically make A champs and the coaches choose the four fastest swimmers regardless of qualification times. If you have been asked to swim in a relay, you have one of the top times in your age group.

The first deadline for qualifying for A Champs events is Friday, July 14th. BUT, if you qualify for A champs at either of the meets after July 15th, your child must have been entered into that event in B Champs. More on this below.

*IF your Swimmer has not qualified for A Champs by Friday, 7/14......

• Although the deadline is 7/14 we still have two more swim meets after the deadline which means your swimmer could still qualify at our last two meets.
• If your swimmer is close to qualifying for A champs (within 1-1.5 seconds) but they have not yet qualified before the initial deadline of 7/14, they still have a chance to qualify after the 7/14 date ONLY IF if they are signed up to swim that event at B Champs. 
• For example:
  • Susie Q wants to qualify for 50 free at A champs and the qualifying time is 32.00
  • Susie Q's fastest time this season is 32.89 and she has yet to reach the standard.
  • Susie Q was unable to qualify at the JV and Varsity meet's before the deadline.
  • Susie Q wants another chance to qualify after the first deadline, July 15th.
  • In order to get a final chance, Susie Q's mom signs her up for the 50 free at B champs.
  • Susie Q swims the 50 free at the JV meet after the July 15th deadline and meets the A champs standard going a time of 31.97! 
  • Susie Q's coach can now switch her over from B Champs to A Champs.
  • If Susie Q's mom did not sign her up for the 50 free at B champs and she qualified for A champs at our last meet, she would not be able to swim the event at A champs. 

IMPORTANT: Even if you have no intention of swimming at B champs, in order to make A Champs at our last JV or varsity meet, you must sign up for that event at B Champs.
