MCAT Swimmer Smash Times at Gunderson

SJA ZONE 1S C/B/A+ SHORT COURSE MEET
March 1, 2008
GUNDERSON HIGH SCHOOL

At the meet this last weekend, Juliette Leonard had a 16 second time drop in her 200Free going 1:46.34.  She also dropped 6 1/2 seconds in her 100IM  for a time of 1:54.90.  Her greatest performance was in the 50 breast where she went  46.79 earning a new BB time. Congratulations.

Genevieve Leonard was impressive with time drops both days of the meet.  After competing in her basketball championship play offs, and winning the championships, she raced to the meet just getting there in time to swim the 2OO breast.  She dropped 19 seconds off of her time going 3.29.49.  WOW!!!!  She also dropped 12.09 seconds in the 500 free (8:02.86) , dropped 3.99 seconds in the 50 back (40.92), dropped 1.19 in the 100 breast (1:42.00),  and dropped 4.08 seconds in the 100IM going 1:28.38.  Fantastic!!!

Elizabeth Whalen swam personal best times in the 50 free racing to a time of  43.18 a 1.75 second drop.  She also took of time in the 100 free with a technically  well swum race.  She maintained her breathing pattern and negative split the race as was requested by her coach. She dropped 7.40 seconds from her last months time, going 1:39.18. Incredible!!!

Jamie Macabugao had a personal best time in the 200 free dropping a whopping 18+ seconds.  She paced the race perfectly going 2:40.85.  Jamie also learned alot about swimming at the meet.  She also provided me with the best  tasting brownie I have ever had in my life.  No kidding!

Toby Macabugao smashed his times this weekend  in his new age group 11-12 boys, earning new BB times in all races.  He went  30.10 in the 50 free dropping .93 of a second, 2:22.35 in the 200 free dropping 11.38 seconds, 2:57.04 in the 200 breast dropping 6.48 seconds and went 2:39.65 in the 200IM smashing his previous time by 8.28 seconds.  What is notable about Toby was that he swam all these races in one day.  He listened to his coach about the importance of a long warm down so he could get up and race again without lactic acid buildup in his muscles.  Because he did what was asked of him , he had an extraordinary day.  The 12 year olds were put on notice that Toby has come to compete and swim with the big boys. He placed first in all but one of his heats.

As for the parents,  I would like to thank them for timing, hanging out together and supporting their children in a positive manner.  You made my weekend enjoyable.
