MCAT Swimmers show tremendous time drops,yet again at Gilroy.
MCAT SWIMMERS SWIM WITH SPIRIT AT THE GILROY MEET ON Feb. 7 & 8,2009
MCAT Swimmers Juliette Leonard and Emir Yilmaz stole the show by clocking in fast times in their respective events at Gilroy this past weekend. Juliette Leonard earned her first Junior Olympic Qualifying time in the 100 Breast going 1:34.56. Emir earned a Junior Olympic qualifying time and a Far Western Qualifying time in the 100 back by going 58.49.
I have received numerous kudos from parents and other coaches about our sportmanship and spirit as a team. This was good news to hear,as we are gaining the reputation as quality team with happy swimmers and families. We are having fun and enjoying the sport and each others company.
Performances of swimmers at this meet were noteworthy. Alexander Burgess (8),swam personal best times in four events. Amanda Cavazos (7), improved her times in seven races with 5 of them being A times. Amanda dropped 2.00 seconds in the 50 fly(44.49) and 6.94 seconds in the 100 free (1:23.43). Karlee Tomaso (7)earned 2 new B times in the 25 breast (27.42)dropping 6 seconds and 25 fly (24.16) dropping approximately 5 seconds. She also took off 3 seconds in her 25 free. Karlee swam 6 races with 100% improvement. Rachel Best (9) took off 3.08 seconds in her 50 back going (52.70). Juliette Leonard (10),had two best times in the breast stroke races. Andrey Movilla (10) earned two best times in the 50 free and 50 back and had 100% best times. Mia Ramos swam to 4 new a times and 4 best times. She took 5.15 seconds off of her 50 back (40.33), 4.44 seconds off in her 50 breast going (48.47) and 4.34 seconds off in her 50 free going 36.00. Liz Whalen swam 10 events over the 2 day meet , not afraid to compete (which we love her for). She earned seven new best times. Liz swam to a new A time in the 200 free going (2:48.64) , dropping an incredible 11.27 seconds. Other swim s of note were the 100 fly netting an 11.36 second drop and a 14.00 drop in the 100 back. WOW. Daniel Cavazos (10),tore up the pool with his fast swim in the 50 free earning a new B time. Matthew Dunston(9) was four best times in 4 races. Matthew dropped 12.90 seconds in the 200 free going 3:18.34. Genevieve Leonard (12),swam to 2 new best times. Genevieve dropped 4.01 seconds in her 100 breast (1:25.94) and swam the 400IM in a 6:05.42 earning an A time in it. Dennis Wang (12), improved 4 times and broke 30 in the 50 free going (29.94). Yah! Emir Yilmaz (17), swam 3 best times and earned a Far Western time in the 100 back (58.49)
