SCCA meet Results and Notes

Another beautiful weekend on the Central Coast.  Speaking of beautiful, I need to mention the quality of our swimmers starts and streamlines.  Awesome best describes our team at all levels.  We had the best starts, streamlines and breakouts of all teams participating in the meet.  We also had the fastest 49er relay team on Saturday.  We took first in the 200 medley relay.

Special thanks to our parents who timed and officiated this weekend.  It was a fun weekend.  Below is a list of notes about this past weekend’s performances.

Dennis Wang (13)-  A new A time in the 100 fly, dropping 2.21 seconds.   He also dropped 4.7 seconds in both the 200 free and 200 back.  Dennis swam all A times at this meet in his 5 events.

Liz Whalen(11) - 4 best times and a new A time in the 200IM (2:51.23).  The 200IM netted a 9.74 second drop.  The smartly paced 100 back showed a 11.40 second drop in time.  It was beautiful.

Celeste Valdez (12.6)  - Had 100% best times.  Celeste showed true championship characteristics after a very difficult week.  Celeste’s grandmother passed away recently.  Celeste has lead by example in showing us all to put one foot in front of another in the face of troubled times.  I enjoyed seeing her get a new A time in the 50 breat and drop 1.77 seconds in the 100 back.

Caitlyn Rodriguez (11) - earned a new B time in the 100 back.

Julliette Leonard (11)-  A sunning 11.31 second drop in the 200IM earning a 3:09.01.  Her butterfly was outstanding in this race.

Catelyn Haro (12) - 100% best times.  A 1.27 second drop in the 100 free and 1.91 second drop in the 100 back.  Fantastic breakouts young lady!

Evan Haro (10) - Had a courageous performance in the 100 free, even feeling very sick.

Daniel Cavazos (10) - Had a 3 second drop in the 100 free by executing great streamlines off of every wall.  He also earned a best time in the 50 breast.

Angelina Uzzle (9)-  100% best times that included an inspirational performance in the 500 free.  The whole team cheered her on to a 10:26.95 finish.  We are so proud of you for swimming the 500 free.

Jenna Maldonado (9) - 100 % best times and smiles to go around.  She swam the 100 free, 50 breat and 50 fly.

Mateo Trujillo (7) -  100 % best times.  He earned a new B time in the 25 free going 22.94. You Rock!

Wade Rianda (7)- Earned 2 new personal best times 25 free and the 25 back.  Good job !

Karlee Tomaso- Had a great day with 2 very fast swims.

Amanda Cavazos (8)-  2 new personal best A times in the 25 free going a blistering fast 15.98 seconds.  This race will go down as one of my favorites of 2009.  Amanda streamlined  over 1/3 of the pool, keeping her head down on the breakout and only taking 1 breath accross the pool.  It was an inspiring swim.  A rare glimpse of what lies ahead for Amanda if she keeps up with this kind of perfection in a swim.  She also earned a best time in the 100 free.

Cole Rianda (13)-  100 % best times.  2 new B times. Dropped 16.22 seconds in the 200 free, .82 seconds in the 50 free, 1.76 seconds in the 100 fly and 4.54 seconds in the 200IM.  Big time drops!!!!

Gabe Rianda (11) - 3 personal best times and marked improvement in stoke technique in all of his swims.

Genevieve Leonard (13) - WOW 11.42 seconds takem off in the 200 back and 7.92 seconds off in the 200 free for a new A time.  You were movin’ girl!

Toby Macabugao (12) -  100 best times. A new Far Western Qualifying time in the 100 free going 56.85.  Dropping 33.05 seconds from his last springs short course year’s time and 1.78 from his Long Course converted time from this summer.  A new Junior Olympic time in the 100 back going 1:11.38.

Sincerely,

Dia C Rianda
