Junior Plus Meet "Swimming through the training"
Gunderson HS- JR+Meet
Three MCAT swimmers signed up for the Jr. + meet at Gunderson High School on October 2,2010. Toby Macabugao, Dennis Wang, and Caitlyn Rodriguez experienced the next level of swimming in our sport, This meet was a qualification meet by the JR Time Standards listed in the Pacific Swim Guide. All swimmers of all age groups compete as one group of swimmers at this type of meet. There are no age group classifications at this level. This is the first time these swimmers have participated in this type of meet. The 3 found the competition interesting and invigorating. Their first swim was a nervous swim. The 200IM was rough as you could see that the 3 were nervous about swimming against so many 15,16,17 and 18 year olds. The following swims were fantastic. Each of the swimmers rose to the occasion of the fierce competition against older swimmers. Dennis dropped .31 in the 100free and 7.52 seconds in the 200 breast. Dennis' 200 breast was outstanding and the best he has done technically in the pool. Caitlyn dropped time in her 100 free with an outstanding swim going 1:03.57. Toby dropped .79 in the 100 free doing a JO cut with a 55:30. He took off .31 off of his 100 back and had a stunning swim of 2:22:11 in the 200 breast earning a Pacific Swimming SR Trails and Finals meet qualification time and a new PRT.
Now ,I have to say that this swimming was an excellent surprise considering this has been a tough training week, with zero rest for these swimmers. In the senior group best times are not expected at this time of year because of the training intensity. Usually it is customary for coaches/swimmers to compare times from the same time of year of the previous year. MCAT senior swimmers who are consistent about practice attendance are improving. MCAT Senior and Pre-senior swimmers are swimming well tired, We are on track to have a fantastic swim year.
Those swimmers who are at practice regularly, work hard at practice, and go to meets will show the best results in personal improvement.
