Team Annual Break Aug 15-28 ,2011

Swim Team Break

Event Date

August 15 - 28, 2011

While there are different philosophies of the importance and relevance of a break in swimming, it is the opinion of this coaching staff, that a break is important to an age group swimmer and senior swimmer.  A break in the middle of the season is not recommended, but it is a common and traditional practice in the world of swimming to take a break between the Long Course and Short Course Season in the early Fall.  Most teams do this.

We believe this break is important to the swimmer for both physiological and psychological reasons.  The Long Course summer schedule is taxing on coaches and swimmers and after a successful Championship Season it is important to facilitate recovery and allow swimmers and families to have a short time where they can vacation, prepare for the return to school, and rest the body to allow for optimal growth.

We are not saying swimmers should remain inactive during this time, but that they should engage in non-swimming related exercise during this time.  Daily exercise is recommended and encouraged. Preferably non water related activity so that they miss the pool and their friends and come back with a renewed energy and spirit.

This break also allows the coaching staff a couple of days off and gives them time to prepare season and athlete plans for the following year.

Dues will not be prorated and accounts will remain active during this two week break, as coaches are still working on behalf of your swimmer and the team as a whole.

Sincerely,

The Coaching Staff of MCAT
