Washington Open Wrap-Up from Seattle
Nine TSM athletes had quite an adventure in the Pacific Northwest, as they braved flight cancellations and severe winter weather to land safely in Seattle, early Thursday morning. Once they touched down, our young men and women were all business.
The most memorable moment of the weekend came on Sunday, the last day of competition at the 36th Annual Washington Open. Jordan Wilimovsky completed 30 grueling lengths of the 50 meter course in 15:51.69 to become TSM's first U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier since 2008. Jordan had an outstanding meet, with a win in the 400 Free, a 2nd place finish in the 400 IM and a 5th place finish in the 200 Back. Congratulations, Jordan!
Also noteworthy, 13 year old swimmers Andy Kim and Sean Steele qualified for Australian Age Champs with their 800 Free times of 9:30.86 and 9:31.15, respectively. Way to go, boys!
On the women's side, Liliana Casso posted three top-8 finishes by winning the 1500 Free and finishing 3rd and 7th in the 400 Free and 200 Free, respectively.
In the men's action, Eugene Tee had another outstanding meet, touching out teammate Jordan Wilimovsky to win the 1500 Free, winning his specialty, the 400 IM, and nabbing 2nd place in the 200 Back.
Honorable mentions go to Andy Kim, Scott Simmer and Sean Steele for achieving lifetime best times in every race.
