TSM Swimmers Get A Win and New Cuts at the Speedo Grand Challenge

The Speedo Grand Challenge had an international feel, this year, as many of the fastest swimmers in the world converged on the campus of Irvine High School for a pre-Olympic tune-up. Team Santa Monica had finallists each night proving we can hold our own against the big guns.

TSM athletes produced some quality results in long and short freestyles, IMs, and stroke events, highlighted by...

Jordan Wilimovsky's victory in the 1500 Free (15:34.94) and Nick DeVito's first NCSA Junior National cut in the same event (16:41.42).

Here's a videotape of Jordan's winning performance at the Speedo Grand Challenge.

The stand-out on the ladies' side was Payton Perrotta, with personal best swims in the 200 (2:08.27) and 400 Free (4:28.51).

Also notable were;

Brendan Casey's 200 Fly (2:13.23) and 200 Back (2:15.45),

Matthew Chen's 200 IM (2:19.83)

Max Halson's 100 Free (55.88), Sam Lameynardie's 100 Free (51.82)

Eugene Tee's 400 IM (4:27.37) and 1500 Free (15:59.81)

Jordan Wilimovsky's 200 Back (2:10.58) and Brandon Yong's 1500 Free (16:49.22).

["The powers that are leading the rise of open water swimming at the youth level are obvious from this squad – Team Santa Monica and Mission Viejo in Southern California are responsible for a combined 6 of the 8 swimmers headed to Junior Worlds. The other two swimmers come from the East Coast (Cougar Aquatic Team is in New Jersey, the Shenandoah Marlins are in Virginia)."]
