TSM Takes 3rd Place @ Gold Sectional 5K Open Water Race

Open Water Swimming is becoming one of the most competitive events at the Olympic Games, with previous medallists and current contenders coming from some of the best pool swimmers on the planet. In both the men's and women's events, past and current pool Olympic medallists battle it out with open water World Champions. In fact, both the Olympic Champion and Silver medalist in the men's 1500 will be contesting the 10k in London.

USA Swimming has upped it's game with the current qualifying standards for the 5k and 10k National Championships sitting at the toughest in the world. It is not good enough just to be fast in the open water. In order to qualify, you must post national pool standards. At the latest national championships, TSM's Jordan Wilimovsky held off USA 1500m pool Olympian and NCAA standout Andrew Gemmell for over 9k of the 10k race.

In Southern California, Monday's Gold Sectionals 5K Open Water Race turned out to be arguably one of the toughest in the US with both the Men's and Women's 5K USA National Champions showing up on race day. In addition, both Mission Viejo and Canyons brought their National Teams and college training swimmers out to compete.

TSM was ready with national junior team members and National medalists of its own. Though one of the smaller teams in the field, TSM had a very strong showing and finished in 3rd place overall. Led by Jordan Wilimovsky, Liliana Casso and Scott Simmer, TSM placed 3 men and 2 women in the respective top 15 categories. Congratulations TSM!
