Gabby Barbre

Amanda Jackson

Back in July of 2020, previous athlete, Gabby Barbre, began to complain of chest pain and was taken straight to the emergency room. Gabby then followed up with a Pediatric Cardiologist where she was diagnosed with many heart defects, including ventricular inversion. Gabby was scheduled to have open-heart surgery on October 19, but doctors soon realized the procedure could not be done safely. Therefore, the only alternative for Gabby was a heart transplant. After an eight-hour surgery, Gabby received a new heart. Gabby has begun the recovery process where she attends outpatient physical and occupational therapy. Two days before Christmas, Gabby's family received the call where she was able to come home after three long months of being away at the hospital. A GoFundMe page was also created with the goal of raising $50,000. As of Monday, Dec. 7, more than $23,000 has been donated. Also, with the help of our amazing community, Sky Athletics was able to organize a fundraiser that raised almost $28,000.

Gabby is finally home for the holidays and although there may be a long road ahead of her, Gabby is a warrior and she has an army running the race behind her every step of the way!
