A MESSAGE FROM THE UANA PRESIDENT
Greetings to the UANA Family and welcome to the 1st Edition of the UANA Newsletter produced and distributed from the UANA Permanent Administrative Office in Colorado Springs. This UANA Newsletter will be produced on a periodic basis and together with the UANA Website ( www.uana-aquatics.org ) will bring news of the activities of our federations and the events of UANA. This edition reflects the work and commitment of UANA Media Officer Gregory Eggert and the invaluable assistance of Kathy Parker and Brenda Adams whose services are generously made available to us by USA Swimming.
Most recently, I attended the Congress of CCCAN convened in Mayaguez (PUR) on June 26th. The Congress was also attended by FINA President Dr. Julio Maglione and FINA Vice President Dale Neuburger; together we enjoyed the hospitality of CCCAN President Errol Clarke. The Congress reaffirmed President Clarke (BAR) and Jose Ismael Gonzalez (GUA) to represent CCCAN on the UANA Executive Committee which will preside following the Pan American Games during the years 2011 – 2015.
During the Championships which followed the CCCAN conducted the Zone 10K Open Water Pan American Games Qualification Events for Men and Women. All four (4) UANA Zones have now held their Open Water Qualification Events which result in 18 Men and 18 Women being qualified to compete in the XVI Pan American Games on October 22nd in Puerto Vallarta.
As we enter the final four (4) months of the 2007 – 2011 UANA Quadrennial we prepare for the XVI Pan American Games and the Quadrennial General Congress of UANA. The FINA Extraordinary Congress to be held on July 21st in Shanghai (CHN) deals solely with the FINA Constitution; the outcome of which may have an impact upon our own UANA Constitution as we continue to be the recognized Continental Organization of the Americas.
In preparation for the FINA Extraordinary Congress it is hoped that a General Meeting of UANA Federations can be scheduled for July 20th. It is anticipated this meeting will take place during the FINA World Championships in the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel; however, the precise meeting room and time of the meeting is yet to be confirmed. FINA President Dr. Julio Maglione, the FINA Bureau Members of the Americas and FINA Director Cornel Marculescu have been invited to attend in an effort to provide insight into the proposed amendments to the FINA Constitution.
During our meeting in Shanghai the UANA Technical Committee Chairpersons will provide the most current updating of the preparations for the XVI Pan American Games to be held in Guadalajara (MEX) in October. In addition the UANA Executive Committee will provide an update of preparations for the UANA Quadrennial Congress to be convened on October 17th at the Intercontinental Presidente Hotel in Guadalajara. Registration of federation delegates shall commence at 13.30 hrs and the Congress will be called to order at 14.00 hrs. Among other business to be conducted at the Congress will be proposed amendments to the UANA Constitution; these amendments together with the rationale therefore were previously communicated to you and for your continued reference are included as attachments for your review.
If there are matters of new business to be considered at the UANA Congress, it is required that these matters be communicated to UANA Secretary Guno van der Jagt at least 90 days prior to the UANA Congress. Federations are reminded that to be recognized at the Congress all affiliation dues to FINA, to UANA and also to their Zone (CONSANAT & CCCAN) must be in good standing.

OF GREAT IMPORTANCE TO THE UANA FAMILYis the fact that in Shanghai, the FINA Bureau will be asked to make a very important decision about the venues of the FINA World Championships in 2015 and possibly in 2017. THE CITY OF GUADALAJARA and the MEXICAN SWIMMING FEDERATION will present their candidature to FINA at that time. I have had the opportunity to be acquainted with the City of Guadalajara, which will host the Pan American Games in October this year. Guadalajara is a city which features outstanding sports venues including the newly constructed Scotia Bank Aquatic Center, which is one of the finest aquatic facilities in the world. In my term as UANA President I have met with many very capable and dedicated sport leaders representing the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and the Guadalajara Organizing Committee (COPAG); all are excellent dedicated technicians and administrators who will ensure a superb Pan American Games in October and will certainly deliver an outstanding FINA World Championships if selected to do so in either 2015 or 2017.
We look forward to meeting with our many friends in Shanghai (CHN) and Guadalajara (MEX) as we bring this UANA Quadrennial 2007 – 2011 to a successful conclusion. On behalf of the UANA Executive Committee, I extend best wishes to al UANA athletes, coaches and officials in their competitive endeavours this summer.

Saludos a la familia de la UANA y bienvenidos a la primera edición del Boletín de la UANA producida y distribuida de la UANA Permanente Oficina Administrativa en Colorado Springs. Este boletín UANA se produce de forma periódica y en conjunto con el Sitio Web UANA (www.uana-aquatics.org) traerá noticias de las actividades de las federaciones y los acontecimientos de la UANA. Recientemente, asistí al Congreso de la CCCAN convocada en Mayagüez (PUR) el 26 de junio. El Congreso contó también con la FINA Presidente Dr. Julio Maglione y vicepresidente de la FINA Dale Neuburger, juntos disfrutamos de la hospitalidad de CCCAN Presidente Errol Clarke. El Congreso reafirmó el presidente Clarke (BAR) y José Ismael González (GUA) para representar CCCAN en el Comité Ejecutivo UANA que presidirán después de los Juegos Panamericanos en los años 2011 a 2015.
Durante los campeonatos que siguieron a la CCCAN llevó a cabo el 10K Zona de Aguas Abiertas Panamericana de eventos de clasificación de juegos para hombres y mujeres. Los cuatro (4) Zonas UANA han celebrado sus eventos Abierto de calificación del agua que se traducen en 18 hombres y 18 las mujeres que están calificados para competir en los XVI Juegos Panamericanos el 22 de octubre en Puerto Vallarta.
Al entrar en la final a cuatro (4) meses del 2007 a 2011 UANA Cuatrienal nos preparamos para los XVI Juegos Panamericanos y el Congreso cuadrienal general de la UANA. El Congreso de la FINA Extraordinaria que se celebrará el 21 de julio en Shanghai (CHN) se refiere únicamente a la Constitución de la FINA, el resultado de lo que puede tener un impacto en nuestra propia Constitución UANA a medida que continuamos la reconocida Organización Continental de las Américas.

DE GRAN IMPORTANCIA A LA FAMILIA UANA es el hecho de que en Shanghai, la Oficina de la FINA se le pedirá que tome una decisión muy importante sobre las sedes de los Campeonatos del Mundo FINA en 2015 y posiblemente en el 2017. LA CIUDAD DE GUADALAJARA y el mexicano la Federación de Natación presentará su candidatura a la FINA en ese momento. He tenido la oportunidad de familiarizarse con la ciudad de Guadalajara, que será sede de los Juegos Panamericanos en octubre de este año. Guadalajara es una ciudad que cuenta con instalaciones deportivas pendientes, incluidas las de nueva construcción del Centro Acuático de Scotia Bank, que es una de las mejores instalaciones acuáticas en el mundo. En mi mandato como Presidente UANA me he reunido con muchos líderes deportivos muy capaz y dedicada en representación de la Organización Deportiva Panamericana (ODEPA) y el Comité Organizador de Guadalajara (COPAG), todos son excelentes técnicos dedicados y administradores que se asegurará un magnífico Juegos Panamericanos en octubre y sin duda proporcionará una excelente FINA Campeonatos del Mundo de si es seleccionado para hacerlo, ya sea en 2015 o 2017.
Esperamos reunirnos con nuestros amigos en Shanghai (CHN) y Guadalajara (MEX) a medida que traemos este Cuatrienal 2007 UANA - 2011 a una conclusión exitosa.
