Cayman Islands’ Brett and Shaune Fraser won gold and silver in the men’s 200m Freestyle final, held at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center tonight. Brett also broke the Pan American record of 1’48”.49/100, set by Brazil’s Gustavo Borges at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar de Plata. Brett Fraser finished with a time of 1’47”.18/100, almost one second under from the previous record.
The second spot was Shaune Fraser with a time of 1’48”.29/100, while the third position was for Paraguay’s Benjamin Hockin with a registered time of 1’48”.48/100. United States Matthew Edward Patton finished fourth with 1’48”.64/100; and his fellow countryman Douglas Robinson was fifth with 1’48”.71/100. Sixth and seventh spots were for Venezuela’s Cristian Quintero (1’49”.44/100), and Brazil’s Andre Schultz (1’50”.04/100). Daniele Tirabassi from Venezuela was eighth (1’52”.31/100).
Mario Montoya from Costa Rica was first in the B Final with 1’53”.13/100. Second and third spots were for Mexico’s Gustavo Berretta (1’53”.16/100) and Gerardo Bañuelos (1’53”.26/100).
