Keeping the advantage for most part of the race, Argentina’s Cecilia Biagioli won Pan American gold in Open Waters, demonstrating why she was a medal contender.

The competition kicked off at 9:14AM, minutes after the Men’s race had started, with competitors Zsofia Balazs from Canada, Argentina’s Cecilia Biagioli and USA's Eva Mariel Fabian starting ahead of the competition.

In the second lap, the above mentioned group kept its pace ahead of the competition, with Biagioli, who was fifth place in the Shanghai World Cup, still in first place; Alexandra Guerra from USA and Poliana Okimoto were catching up.

As the race continued, Argentina's competitor was still leading, followed closely by Ana Marcela Cunha from Brazil, who is considered the best Open Water competitor according to FINA, as Balazs and Fabian were catching up.

Christine Jennings from USA started to reach the leaders of the race just as the competition hit halfway.

Mexico’s Lizeth Rueda and Alejandra Gonzalez tried to catch up with the leaders in the fourth lap of the race, without any positive results.

Almost in the end, Biagioli from Argentina kept the first place, followed by Zsofia Balazs from Canada and Christine Jennings from the US.

However, Fabian and Jennings made a move by taking second and third place, but Biagioli did not let them pass her.

At the end, Biagioli won gold with a wide margin in relation to her closest competitor, who was Brazil’s Okimoto who snatched silver, and Jennings from USA earned bronze.
