It was an event full of excitement; there was happiness, protests and lots of effort among the competitors in this Men’s Open Waters competition. Richard Anton Weinberg from Canada won the victory after swimming 10km, arriving to the finishing line in 1.57’31”.0/100.

The competition began around 9:09AM, and by the first lap, Nathaniel Ramos from Puerto Rico and Guillermo Bertola from Argentina took the lead. However, Ricardo Escobar and Ivan Lopez caught up soon.

By the second lap, Allan Carmo was heading the race, followed by Luis Ricardo Escobar from Mexico.

Richard Anton Weinberger momentarily took the first position, followed by Arthur Dennis Frayler from USA and Ricardo Escrobar from Mexico in the third place.

Halfway throughout the race, the ocean currents that where favoring them, changed against the athletes and made it more difficult for them.

The same athletes kept on heading by the fourth lap; only Ivan de Jesus reached them in the fourth place.

Weinberger, who lost the leadership during the last stop to rehydrate, regained the first place and Erwin Maldonado from Venezuela surprised everyone when he took the lead for a few minutes.

This exciting race kept the audience alert the whole time, and when the fourth lap was almost over, Canada was still in the first place, followed by Ivan Enderica from Ecuador.

When the fifth lap was almost over, Weinberger from Canada made it back to first place, but it was not easy at all. He had to overtake Freyler from USA, Enderica from Ecuador and Ivan from Mexico.

However, after a couple of minutes Guillermo Bertola from Argentina was in the third place, Mexico in the fourth place thanks to Lopez, and Enderica was left behind in the fifth place.

Close to the finish line, Weinberger from Canada, Frayler from USA, Ivan Enderica from Ecuador, and Bertola from Argentina were struggling to get first place, making a full of excitement ending.

After this tight race, Richard Anton Weinberger from Canada kept the gold, Arthur Dennis Frayler from USA won the silver medal, and Guillermo Bertola from Argentina owned the bronze medal. Just a couple of strokes behind, came Ivan Alejandro Enderica from Ecuador, making his fellowmen protest. They considered Argentina blocked his way, but this complaint was rejected after watching the video.

The official registered times were:

1.- Weinberger from Canada made 1:57'31''.0/100

2.- Arthur Frayler from USA made 1:57'31''.3/100
