Day 3 summary from the XVIIth U.A.N.A. Pan American Junior Men's Championships

Brazil started strong from the beginning and never looked back. They were up 4-2 at the end of the first quarter and 9-3 at the half. Most of their goals came from counter attacks and mistakes from Trinidad and Tobago. The defensive pressure of Brazil never let Trinidad to have a solid centre post attack
Bernardo Gomes was the best scorer for Brazil and for the game with 8 goals. Shaquille Mitchell was the top scorer for Trinidad and Tobago with three goals. Brazil will play Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago will have a tough game against Argentina, a game which could decide who arrives in the top 4 places and play in quarter finals.

Game #20 USA 18 PER 2
United States scored often, using a solid man to man defense and strong counter attacks, which where no match for the young Peru team. United States kept substituting frequently, which allowed them to keep the full court pressure and counter attack every shot.
United States had a balanced offensive attack with three players scoring three goals, while Peru had two players with one goal apiece. On tomorrow’s session, United States will play Puerto Rico and Peru will have a bye.

Game #21 PUR 8 COL 10
Colombia and Puerto Rico played a very even game for the first half. Puerto Rico won the first quarter 4-3 and was up 5-4 at the half. Colombia had a third strong quarter, attacking mostly from centre post and extra man, to get a 3 goal lead on the third quarter. Puerto Rico couldn’t muster a consistent attack on the last quarter.
Jyman Talaga was the best scorer for Colombia with three goals and three other players had two goals. Luis Mojica had three goals for Puerto Rico and two other players had two goals. Puerto Rico missed two critical extra man situations in the last quarter, which would have tied the game. Colombia plays Mexico and Puerto Rico goes against USA on tomorrow’s afternoon session.

Game #18 VEN 8 CAN 18
Canada opened the game with a fury of goals, getting an early lead of 6-1 in the first quarter. Venezuela never gave up and won the second quarter 5-1 to get back at the game at halftime (9-6).
The energy spent by Venezuela in the second quarter seemed to got them winded, and Canada used that to their advantage in the third quarter. Constant defensive pressure from the Canadian team made it difficult for Venezuela to get the offense on track. Canada counter attacked every shot and was able to score at will, taking a commanding lead (14-6). Venezuela plays Brazil tomorrow and Canada has a bye. Brazil has to win by 11 goals or more to get first in their group. If not, Canada will be fisrt in the A group.
