Day 4 summary from the XIth U.A.N.A. Pan American Junior Women's Championships
Game #22 PUR 7 MEX 11
A slow start for the Puerto Rico team and a strong one for the Mexico team was all that was needed to decide the game. At the end of the first quanrter the score was 4-0 for Mexico, and at the half it was 6-0. Puerto Rico couldn’t capitalize the extra man opportunities, while Mexico was able to score 3 of their six goals on extra man situations.
Puerto Rico mounted a comeback in the third quarter, but they missed a counter attack and an extra man, while Mexico capitalized on both opportunities to put the game out of reach. Puerto Rico never quitted and won the last quarter 5-3 to close the gap. Puerto Rico plays USA tomorrow and will have to settle to play Venezuela for positions 5-6. Mexico plays Brazil and will probably play United States in semi-finals.

Game #23 USA 19 VEN 4
The powerful United States team came strong from the beginning, with outstanding defense and precise counter attacking to put the game away by the half of the game (8-3). By the third quarter, the faster and stronger USA team scored at will on their extra man and counter attacks.
Venezuela never stopped playing but where not a match for the USA team. Soleilyn Martinez, Venezuela’s top scorer for the tournament, was their best player with two goals and strong play during the whole game. USA was led by Emily Donohue with four goals. Venezuela will go against top team Canada and Venezuela will play USA.

Game #24 CAN 11 BRA 7
After a strong and even first quarter (2-1 Canada), the home team scored three goals in the second quarter, two of them from extra man, to open the game up. In the third quarter Canada relied on their defense and outside shooting to put awa the game (4-1).
Brazil mounted a strong fourth quarter, scoring four goals in a three minute span to put the game 9-7. Canada’s patience both in offense and defense helped them preserve their win, scoring two goals from the outside. Izabella Chappini was the top scorer for the game and for Brazil with six goals. Gurpreet Sohi was the top scorer for Canada with four goals. Canada plays Venezuela and Brazil will play Mexico.
