Germany finished atop the medal standings of the 2012 Open Water Junior Worlds held this weekend (August 17-19) in Welland, Ontario. Germany won 4 of the 6 races at the championships. Top-5 medal standings were:

1) Germany (4 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze),

2) China (1gold, 1 bronze),

3) South Africa (1 gold),

4) Russia (3 silvers), 

5) USA (1 silver, 1 bronze).

Also garnering medals were: Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, and Venezuela.

This was the first edition for the championships, which replaced the Open Water Worlds. It featured 7.5K
races for Juniors, and 5K races for Youths, as well as 3K team events for both age categories.
