Windsor-Detroit in running to host swimming world championships

Ottawa - Ontario city a candidate as site of 2016/2018 world short course event. The world's best short course swimmers could be competing for international glory in Windsor, Ont.
 
FINA announced Thursday that Windsor, in a joint bid with Detroit, is one of three final candidates for the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2016, and eventually 2018. 
 
Windsor/Detroit is up against Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates (city to be confirmed) as potential host sites.
 
The FINA Bureau will vote on Dec. 11 after the presentation of the three projects before this year’s event in Istanbul. If two bids are judged capable of hosting, the Bureau will award the 2016 and 2018 editions at the same time. 
 
The 11th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) will take place in Istanbul from Dec. 12-16, 2012. More than 160 nations (a new record) will take part.
