Michael Phelps visits Brazil and says he will attend Rio 2016™ Olympic Games
Former American swimmer met with Carlos Arthur Nuzman, President of Rio 2016™ in his first visit to the next Olympic Games’ host city, saying he intends to be back in the city for the Games
Holding the greatest number of Olympic medals in history, the former American swimmer Michael Phelps told the president of the Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee Rio 2016, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, that not even his coming retirement would keep him away from the first Games in South America. The two of them met this Tuesday, during Phelps’ first visit to Rio de Janeiro, and the former athlete assured that he would come to Brazil to watch the competitions.
Nuzman praised Phelps’ contribution to the sports world and invited him to return in 2016: "Congratulations for all that you have done, not only for the swimming, but for the sport and the Olympic Movement. I hope you may be back in Rio and enjoy our Games", he said.
Phelps assured that he would be back and admitted that he wouldn’t even want to wait four years: “I am very eager to live the Games experience in Rio. This visit was short, but I hope it will be the first of many until 2016”, he said.
Earlier, the former swimmer has visited the Complexo do Alemão sports centre and gave a swimming lesson to young people in the community.
