First St. Lucian Grand Prix Meet
FIRST ST LUCIAN GRAND PRIX MEET
The 1st Lucian Grand Prix Swim Meet held over the weekend 7th to 9th December 2012 concluded as a huge success. The RACERS Swim Club organized a well run competition under the sanction of the St Lucia Amateur Swimming Association.
The Grand Prix is designed to get our local swimmers prepared mentally and physically to perform at a higher level where they could improve their times in the second swim. The only swimmers going to the Finals each evening of each day were the top 8 in each age group. Awards were present to the top three swimmers in each event and 1st place and runner up high point medals.
The idea of the meet was to swim in the format of larger international swim competitions such as CARIFTA, CISC, CCCAN, World Championships and Olympics. All of these meets have heats in the morning sessions and finals in the evening sessions.

The competition was stiff in all the age groups as swimmers moved up in some cases to compete against the athletes they will join for the next calendar year. This motivated the swimmers to raise their level. Many personal best times were seen over the three days of competition. Another major difference was giving swimmers a second chance by going to finals. This was only in the 11-12 and 13 - over age groups for this year. All 10 and Under swimmers swam Timed Finals.
Many RACERS swim club parents helped officiate and also learn areas of running a competition from organization to officiating in the computer room and on deck as timers. By all accounts the meet ran smoothly and concluded on a high note.
