Canadians lead in solo and duet
SHEFFIELD, England – Chloe Isaac of Brossard, Que., leads in solo while Stephanie Leclair and Karine Thomas, both of Gatineau, Que., topped the duet field after Saturday’s technical programs at the British Open synchronized swimming competition.
Leclair and Thomas are done for the competition having planned to only do the technical routine.
“The technical is always the hardest part of the event so we wanted to test it out here in a competitive environment,” said Thomas. “We were very pleased with how we performed it today and now we have good idea and the areas we need to improve and increase the difficulty for the meets this summer.”
Leclair and Thomas earned 88.700 points, Katie Clark and Asha Randall of Britain are second at 83.700 and Emily Randall and Jorga Brown, also of Britain, are third at 69.2.
In solo, Isaac competing in the event internationally for the first time since 2009, tabulated 88.300 points. Margot de Graaf of the Netherlands is second at 81.600 and Brown, third, at 69.300.
‘’This competition for me is all about getting experience,’’ said Isaac. ‘’Not only in the water but doing all the preparation and all the things you have to do at a meet like this before and after the competition. I’m thrilled to be back in solo.’’
Isaac competes in the solo free routine on Sunday.
