Canada’s Chloe Isaac wins gold at British Open
SHEFFIELD, England – Chloe Isaac of Brossard, Que., won the gold medal in the solo event on Sunday at the British Open synchronized swimming competition.
Isaac, competing internationally in solo for the first time since 2009, earned 90.050 points for the free solo event for a total score of 178.350 points. Yesterday, she led the technical solo event with 88.300 points. Margot de Graaf of the Netherlands was second at 166.410 and Jorge Brown of Britain third at 139.390.
‘’This is the level I want to be at for this point in the season,’’ said Isaac, 21 , who has competed at every major international event for Canada since 2009 including last summer’s Olympic Games. ‘’I performed well under a stressful situation and corrected some errors that I had been making in practice.’’
In 2009, Isaac earned two international victories in solo and was fourth in the free solo event at the FINA World Aquatic Championships. She earned gold in duet at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and was in the team event in 2011 and 2012.
‘’This was a very important competition for me,’’ said Isaac. ‘’It got me into the rhythm of the solo competition and allowed me to get re-acquainted with the process for this event. I’m really excited about the rest of the season.’’
