USA Water Polo Men's and Women's Senior National Teams Host Brazil & Canada
The USA Water Polo Men's and Women's Senior National Teams will host a joint weekend of competition this May 24-27 at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, CA. Brazil, Canada, and the United States will be taking part in the first competition for the USA Women's National Team since claiming the Gold Medal in London last summer. For the USA Men they will debut a brand new coaching staff that will lead them through the next four years of competition.
Other storylines for this event include the return of two former USA Women's National Team coaches with rival countries. Three-time Olympic coach Guy Baker returns as Head Coach of Canada while USA Water Polo Hall of Famer and longtime Women's National Team Coach, Sandy Nitta, returns as Head Coach of Brazil. Rosters for Team USA will be announced closer to the competition date.
Prior to the Memorial Day weekend, several members of the Men's National Team will take part in the Fisher Cup, held May 18-19 at UC-San Diego. This is a club tournament bringing together many of the top clubs in the United States. The New York Athletic Club is the defending champion. The tournament schedule is available here
All the action is a lead-up to the FINA World League Super and FINA World Championship this summer. These are the two major events of 2013 for the national teams.
