Another impressive showing for Maxim Bouchard
FORT LAUDERDALE– Maxim Bouchard of St-Constant, Que., overcame a rough preliminary round to qualify for the final on men’s 10-metre tower on Thursday at the USA Grand Prix diving competition.
The event is the fourth stop on the FINA Grand Prix circuit.
Bouchard, a stunning fourth last week at the 2013 Gillette Canada Cup Grand Prix in Gatineau, Que., was 11th after the morning preliminaries to slip into the top-12 cut for the afternoon semifinals. However in the semis he tabulated 429.55 points, almost 40 points better than prelims, for third in his heat to advance to Saturday’s final. The top-three from each of the two semis advance.
The big correction he made in the semis was on his reverse dive. He scored 4.0’s and 5’0’s in the prelims and averaged 8.5’s in the semis. His final semi total was also superior to the scores he earned last week.
Competition continues Friday with preliminaries and semis on men’s three-metre and women’s tower.
