USA Women Beat Canada to advance to Semi Finals of FINA World League Water Polo

 
Beijing, China - June 4 - For the third time in the last two weeks the USA Women's National Team topped Canada, this time a by a count of 6-5, to advance to the semifinals of the FINA World League Super Final.  Kelly Rulon  (San Diego, CA/UCLA/NYAC) scored twice while  Betsey Armstrong  (Ann Arbor, MI/Michigan/NYAC) posted 14 saves in the cage. The United States took a 2-1 lead after the first period and that held up until halftime as neither side could muster a goal in the second period. In the third the Canada offense came to life outscoring Team USA 3-2 to even the match at 4-4 headed to the fourth. In the final period of the low scoring affair the United States was able to add two more goals in picking up the victory 6-5. Team USA went 2/5 on power plays while Canada was 5/7.

"Both teams shot the ball poorly but we are pleased with the win despite allowing them to go 5/7 on their six on five advantage," said USA Head Coach  Adam Krikorian.

The United States and China met to open the FINA World League Super Final with China winning 16-15 in a shootout.
