Barcelona, 18 june 2013

Exactly one month ahead of the long-awaited start of the 15th FINA World Championships Barcelona 2013 the exhibition "The Swimming Costumes Worn in Spanish Synchro Successes" was inaugurated at the Olympic Museum in Barcelona. The undisputed queen of Spanish Synchronised Swimming, Gemma Mengual, attended the presentation of the exhibition.

The exhibition, which is open to the public from today, 18 June, until 1 September, features the swimsuits of the Spanish national Sychronised Swimming team from 2003, starting with the 10th FINA World Championships, until 2012, including the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where Spain claimed two medals: silver in duet and bronze in the team event.

Mengual was accompanied to the presentation by Fernando Carpena, co-president of the Barcelona 2013 Organising Committee and the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, and Enric Bertran, president of the Catalan Swimming Federation.

Swimsuits that were worn at the Olympic Games in Athens (2004), Beijing (2008) and London 2012 as well as the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Montreal, Melbourne, Rome and Shanghai are be exhibited at the museum, serving as great promotion for the Barcelona 2013 World Championships.

The swimsuits, named Miedo, Mar, Raul, Africa, Dali and Yesterday, can be admired at the Olympic Museum, which is located on Montjuic Mountain, between the Municipal Pool and the Picornell Pool, venues for Diving and Water Polo of Barcelona 2013, respectively. The exhibition is free of charge for fans and visitors.

Mengual and Carpena confirmed that the swimsuit for the Barcelona 2013 World Championships will be as glamorous as its predecessors. Ona Carbonell, the new big star of the Spanish Synchro team after Andrea Fuentes retired from the sport earlier this year, studies fashion design in the Catalan capital and helps designing the new swimsuits.
