CCCAN Team Standings: St Lucia Wins Two Medals & 7 New Records

TWO MEDALS AND SEVEN NATIONAL RECORDS AT CCCAN

St Lucia completed the 28th Central American and Caribbean championships (CCCAN) being held in Costa Rica with the highlight being Jordan Augier capturing the islands first ever medals for male swimmers at this level.

Swimming in his favored backstroke events Jordan captured a Silver in the 50M Back and Bronze in the 100M back. His 1:02.09 in the 100m and 27.10 in the 50m were also National Records as was his 2:24.03 in the 200M Back. He also qualified for finals in all of his seven events

Jordans performances have catapulted him to the fore of St Lucia swimming and making him a bright prospect for St Lucias chances in the future CAC and Commonwealth games. Based at the University of Tampa in Tampa Florida, he has come off an intensive NCAA training program  augmenting  his performance

Brad Worrell set two national Records in the 200M Breast and 100M Breast, one Age Group record in the 100M Free and made it to finals in four of his eight events with his best result being the 4th place in the 50M Free. These impressive results were reflective of his intensive local training over the past months

Runako Daniel also had a productive meet with also two National Records in the  100M Fly and 50M Breast and Age Group record in the 100M Free. Runako, also based in the USA, made it to four finals with also his best being the 4th place in the 50M Free

In the 13-14 age group, swimmers Jyasi Daniel and Mark Emanus found the competition difficult and were unable to achieve any finals in their eight events.

For the first time St Lucia had swimmers compete in the Open Water events with Bailey Spiegelburg and Jonathan Mclennon participating in the 5 Km event. Both swimmers also found the competition challenging with Spiegelburg finishing in 1:18:57.13 and Mclennon in 1:20:55.71. The experience will however only serve to benefit the swimmers for their future program.

St Lucia ended the meet 16th of 19 countries in the medal count and 17th in the points table.
