More than 4 million liters of water will be pumped into the temporary pool designed by Myrtha Pools before the start of the synchronized swimming competition on July 20. The bulkhead seen in the photo above is where synchronized swimmers will dive into the pool during competition. That bulkhead will then be removed for the start of pool competition on July 28.
The Palau Sant Jordi is the only venue needing major renovation for the world championships. The two other venues to be used -- the Piscina Municipal de Montjuic for diving and Piscines Bernat Picornell for water polo -- will only have minor upgrades, such as added seating for water polo spectators, as seen in the photo below.
